4th Sunday of Easter

Year C

Acts 9. 36-43

Revelation 7. 9-17

John 10. 22-30

A very warm welcome to any visitors worshipping with us.  At the Communion services those who are confirmed and those who normally receive Communion in their own church (whatever denomination) are invited to receive the bread.  Due to Covid, Communion is only in one kind.  All are welcome to receive a blessing.

Unfortunately it has not been possible to secure the services of a priest to take the 11.00 am Parish Communion service at St Peter’s today and consequently this will be a service of Morning Prayer.
We welcome Steve Brett-Hill, a Reader in the Newport Benefice, to Holy Cross and St Peter’s today and thank him for leading our worship.

Prayer for 4th Sunday of Easter May 8th

Father, thank you for being our Good Shepherd, for leading us, loving us, even giving up your life so that we might be restored to an intimate everlasting fellowship with you our creator

Shepherd us in our own spiritual pilgrimage. Give us the courage to be merciful, the endurance to be faithful to those in our care, just as you are with each of us. Amen.

Prayer for the Ukraine

Lord, we pray for the nation and people of Ukraine; give them a sense of hope in their situation.  May they receive the love and nourishment they deserve, and may they strengthen each other through the horrors of war.  Encourage those who work for peace and reconciliation, give them understanding and patience and a resolve not to give up.  We pray that a peaceful resolution to their current plight may yet be found, and we pray that those in authority on both sides may seek your peace.  May they all know the love of Jesus Christ.  Amen.

THANK YOU:  To all who supported the Monthly Market at the Havenstreet Community Centre on 30th April.  It was good to see support was coming back and apart from being a good social event it raised £101 for St Peter’s Church.  The new innovation of fresh produce was well received and it is hoped to make this a feature of future markets.

THANK YOU: To all who contributed/supported the Bluebell Walk.  It was great to see a good crowd turn out for the event again.  In addition to being a great social occasion it also raised £457 for Holy Cross.  A special ‘Thank you’ to John and Di Cleaver who hosted the event.

Thank you also to Tina and Sue who ensured Holy Cross remained open for the usual Sunday teas.

A Global Call to Prayer: 26 May – 5 June 2022

Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement that invites Christians around the world to pray from Ascension to Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus.

During the 11 days of Thy Kingdom Come, it is hoped that everyone who takes part will:

  • Deepen their own relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Pray for 5 friends or family to come to faith in Jesus
  • Pray for the empowerment of the Spirit that we would be effective in our witness

After the very first Ascension Day the disciples gathered with Mary, constantly devoting themselves to prayer while they waited for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Like them, our reliance on the gift of the Holy Spirit is total – on our own we can do nothing.

It is our prayer that those who have not yet heard the Good News of Jesus Christ and his love for the world will hear it for themselves, and respond and follow Him. Specifically, we again invite each and every Christian across the globe to pray that God’s Spirit might work in the lives of 5 friends who have not responded with their ‘Yes’ to God’s call.

Whether you have joined in ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ before or not, we invite you to take part – along with churches from over 80 different denominations & traditions in nearly 90% of countries (172) around the world.

“In praying 'Thy Kingdom Come' we all commit to playing our part in the renewal of the nations and the transformation of communities." Archbishop Justin Welby

A small number of Novena booklets will be available, and a link to Thy Kingdom Come Website will be included on the Pew Leaflet a little nearer the time.  For any further information please contact me on 01983 564413 or by email on arthur.barbara@hotmail.co.uk.
